new house tour

We've been in our new house for a week now and we're loving it! The kids love exploring all the new places to play and I think we've all been loving the amazing view out our living room windows. I'm sure I sound like a broken record. But seriously, just let me celebrate that view for a little bit longer.

So now that we're feeling a tiny bit settled, it's about time to shake things up and start painting. It's sure to be a HUGE job because I pretty much want to paint almost every room.

For anyone who is super nosy like me, I thought I would go ahead and share the listing pictures to let you see what it looks like currently. And if you're really bored, I also included brief descriptions for some of what I hope to do with the rooms.

I'll start off with the living room that I can't stop talking about. See those tall walls? Above stairs? You know, two stories tall? Yeah, I want it all painted. And call me boring, but I just want a pale gray covering all the walls. At least for now. I will probably throw in some fun accent walls in the future. But I just want to start with gray. I plan to decorate with lots of color though.

This is the view from the living room to the kitchen. The dining room table is between there for the open concept that I desperately wanted. Once again, I just want all gray walls.

The kitchen was one of the most important aspects for me when looking for a home. If it didn't open up to the living room (or give us the option to renovate and open it up) I didn't even want to see the rest of the house. Call me picky. But I knew what I wanted. Also, as much as I love upgraded kitchens, I also didn't want to be paying extra money for a fully upgraded kitchen with finishes that were not my style. So this kitchen is the original kitchen (from 1996) but it allows me to upgrade it to my taste. To start, I'll paint the cabinets white. Eventually I'd like to upgrade counter tops, back splash, and appliances but that can wait.

This is the master bedroom. I plan to paint it eventually but it's not on the top of my priority list right now.

I've been dreaming of a master bathroom for 8 years. Our old house had a bathroom right by our room but it wasn't connected and we shared it with the kids. This bathroom has a garden tub and a giant walk in shower. There are some updates that I'd like to do down the road but I'll just start out with a coat of paint to brighten it up.

This is Evangeline's room. This room will be one of the first to be painted. It's just too dark for me. Once again, I'll probably start with a pale gray and then add lots of pops of color.

This is the kids' bathroom. It already has light gray walls so I'll probably just avoid doing anything with this bathroom for a while.

This is the boys' room. Since the walls are white and bright, I'll probably hold off on any painting. But I have seen some fun statement walls using washi tape while browsing pinterest. So I may do something fun on one of the walls eventually. I think I'll stick with a black, white, and wood (furniture) themed room for them.

This is the half bathroom on the main floor. The blue is a little dark for my liking. This bathroom will probably end up being one of the first painting projects because it's small and will help me feel like I accomplished something.

We have an unfinished walkout basement. Over the years we plan to finish it, starting with Don's studio space.

This other side will function as a play room, game room, family room, etc. And the washer/dryer are in the back.

And last, but not least, are the two decks. The lower deck is small and leads up to the basement door. The upper deck is right off the living room. I hope to find some patio furniture and I also want to figure out how to hang some string lights. Our back yard is really sloped so basically no back yard area for playing or entertaining. But when searching for a house, there's always something that you don't like. This yard is the part that we don't like.

So that's it! Hopefully things will begin to look very different around here soon!

meeting their brother

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post. But now I can finally say that we're official home owners and all moved into our new home!

There is much to be done as far as unpacking/painting/decorating goes. But I have to remind myself that there's no rush. Our days have been so packed lately--and that's before we add in homeschooling two children. Liam will be starting 2nd grade and Kai will be starting Kindergarten. I just need to find some spelling curriculum for Liam. Any suggestions? He's an excellent reader...but spelling isn't his strong suit.

Anyway, before too much more time passes, (how has it almost been 6 weeks already?!?!) I wanted to share these pictures from the first time the kids got to meet their baby brother.

we'll have to work on those smiles. I promise they were all super excited to meet him

our first photo as a family of 7--not the best...but I love it.

I think this picture accurately portrays Liam's love for his brother

With all the craziness of life, I have barely been able to pull out the DSLR. It makes me very sad. I'm so thankful for phones with cameras. It sure does make it easy to take (hundreds!!) of pictures. But I love taking pictures with the DSLR. So I hope to be able to use it a little bit more in the near future. When Desmond was about 10 days old, I was able to take a few pictures with it. I have no idea what I'm doing with newborn photography but Desmond was the perfect model. He slept through all the re-positioning.

I just love that sweet face!
Now we're in the midst of picking out paint colors and making lists of what we need to buy for the new house. I was thinking about sharing the listing pictures of our house on my next blog post to document the "before" condition of our house. I'm excited to finally start changing things up and making this house a home!

kids say and July iphone photos

July. So crazy. So wonderful. I figured I didn't have enough to do around here so I thought I would take the time to share my July iPhone pictures and another "kids say."

Liam--"hey guys! Do you want to play a funny game called 'Destroy the World'?"

Liam--"That's weird. My tummy is hurting."
Me--"Is it because you're hungry? Or do you think you're going to throw up?"
Liam--"Nah. It's just a plain ol' tummy ache."

Kai--"Did Bob Ross used to go to our church but now he doesn't because he decided he wanted to be a painter?"

Kai--"I remember when Pastor Scott taught us about Noah's Ark."
Me--"You do?"
Kai--"Yeah....or maybe that was Kimmy....
.....or maybe Kimmy wasn't at church that day so I was in Miss Becky's class."

Liam thought that the Lord's Supper plates were the offering plates, so as the deacons were heading our way, he leaned over to me and whispered "Mommy, are you ready to pay your bill?"

Kingston--"I can't wait for Desmond to be born. Then your tummy will be little. And I could sit on you."

Liam--"Mommy, how come it smells like Doritos every time you come in here?"
**I feel like it should be noted that I really don't ever eat Doritos so that question is a mystery haha

Liam--"Everyone has hair on their arms."
Kai--"Except Jesus."

Two days after having Desmond, Kai saw my stomach and said "Woah mommy! Your tummy is so small!" And he immediately became my favorite person in the world.

Kai--"Did you know that speedboats are as fast as zebras?"

I overheard Liam trying to sing "He is Exalted." His version went "He is exhausted, the King is exhausted on high, i will praise Him."

My last 2 maternity photos before Desmond's arrival. It's amazing to think of how miserable I was during that week yet I find myself being sad that it's all over.

homemade funnel cakes to take my mind off the fact that I was overdue

and just like that, the sweetest little boy joined our family. All of us are totally in love with this little guy.

when Desmond was one week old, we were able to make it to church for the first time as a family of 7.

and National Ice Cream Day/Month was most definitely celebrated...thoroughly.

All the cousins (minus Desmond)

My new favorite hashtag project, #dresstherainbow. I'm on the lookout for colored walls around St. Louis. So if you know of any, let me know!

Yes, my hands are full. But I also have to heart has never felt more full.

We are down to the last days before we move. I am so excited to start a new chapter in our lives as we finally will own our first home. But also feeling all the emotions of leaving the house that we've lived in for the past 8 years. Our first home together, the home that we have brought each of our 5 children home to. With the best landlords and neighbors you could ever imagine. It's bittersweet. But I can't wait to share our new house with you all very soon!
