So even though I've made it 34 weeks without posting any kind of bumpdate (bump+update) post, I decided to throw one in today. Because something about hitting the 34 week mark has made me realize how soon this will all be over.

It's bittersweet! This has been the hardest pregnancy on me. But I know from past experience that in a couple of months, I'll look back at all the pictures of my giant belly and miss it. Buuuuut....that's kind of hard to imagine right now!

(30 weeks)

All of the kids are super excited to meet their baby brother. But I'm pretty sure Evangeline is about to have her world rocked. She is obsessed with babies. But she's also obsessed with her mommy. So it'll be interesting to see what's going to happen!!

(31 weeks)

I'm pretty sure the one who is most eager for this baby to be born would be my personal photographer--aka my husband--who pretty much wants to hide when I say "can you take a picture really quick?"

(34 weeks)

All is well with baby boy. We're very much looking forward to meeting this sweet little guy! And I hope to be back to a not-so-irritable human being in about a month and a half ;)

playing at the creek

As I've mentioned before, we have been trying to take advantage of Don's weekends to hit up places in our area to do something fun with the kids. We have been fortunate to have some pretty perfect weather on the days we go out. This past Monday was no exception.

We checked out the creek at Mastodon State Park. The boys had been there before and absolutely loved it. So we stopped by the dollar store to pick up some creek essentials. Because apparently the creek isn't nearly as fun if you don't have nets to catch fish or buckets to house the fish.

It also isn't nearly as easy to catch fish with a butterfly net as one would think.
But!! I did catch one for the boys and Don got a tadpole. So everyone was happy--until Liam realized that we were not taking them home as pets.

Getting packed up and getting to our spot was a bit stressful. But I knew it would be worth it once we set up our chairs and the kids started playing. And I was so right!

Evangeline ended up tripping and, consequently, went slightly under water at one point. She was a little bit traumatized. She spent probably 30 minutes cuddled up next to me afterwards. Not a happy event for her but I'll take all the cuddles I can get :)

We found this fun donut inflatable at the dollar store! I'm not the only one in my family who was excited about it.
There may have been an incident with a certain 6 year old accidentally letting it float away. Followed by a big break down. Followed by his dad going downstream to see if it had gotten caught anywhere. Thankfully he was able to retrieve it and our family is still in possession of our very special $1 inflatable donut.

Days like this make it worth the hassle of loading up tons of stuff and lugging all of it (plus 4 children) to a creek. In the end, you forget about how much stress was involved in getting there and you can just enjoy the memories made.

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!! (Hopefully with more good weather!!)

St. Louis City Garden

This past week we were able to make it out to the City Garden on the perfect day. I have been wanting to cram all the fun St. Louis activities in before it starts getting too hot outside and I start getting too uncomfortable to do much walking. An added plus is that kids are not on summer break yet, giving us the chance to avoid the crowds.

Have you been to the City Garden before? I have decided, after this past visit, that this is one of my favorite things to do in the city. I only wish it was closer so we could visit more often! It is, quite literally, a garden that is tucked in the midst of a busy city. It is so much fun to see the city buildings and the Arch while playing in the park!

Of course the main attraction for us is the splash pad. All four of the kids love anything to do with water. And when the kids are happy, mommy is happy.
I think we're destined to live close by the beach/ocean. Our family is always happier when there is sand and water involved. Need proof?

We were there to celebrate Evangeline's birthday and I think it's safe to say that she enjoyed her birthday celebration. I mean, that face!!

Part of the fun of the day was getting the chance to play around with the camera. "Freezing" the water with a high shutter speed made for some really neat pictures. And then there are all the genuine smiles that I caught that make me super happy.

In case I haven't talked it up enough, make sure you visit the City Garden! It's a fun place to go, day or night. If you do happen to visit at night, all the fountains in the splash pad are all lit up different colors. There are also small pools for the kids to swim once they open after Memorial Day.

We will be visiting again very soon :)

little birthday girl

My little Cinco de Mayo baby turned 2 years old today! We celebrated yesterday by taking a trip to the City Garden with the kids. It was one of my favorite family outings we've ever had. I will share as soon as I can figure out how to not post a super insane amount of pictures!

We didn't do much today as far as celebrating goes, but we did make sure to sing to her and eat cupcakes...which is all you really need at 2 years old. It's hard to believe that these two years have gone by so quickly. People say things like that all the time...but it's so true.

I took some first birthday pictures of Evangeline last year with this same flower crown. She still has a sweet little face--but now that face is surrounded by quite a bit more hair.

This girl is a singer. Constantly. Especially at bedtime--sometimes staying awake for an hour or more in her crib, singing loudly. ABC's, Let it Go, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Everything is Awesome--you name it. And she always ends every song by clapping and saying "yay! You did it!"  Wait a few years and we'll see how this little Roberts family band is coming along.

She also loves books (The Monster at the End of This Book and Pete the Cat books are her current favorites.) She can count to 10 (sometimes needing a little help), sing her ABC's, and usually gets her colors right--pink is her favorite!

She loves bows in her hair, pretty dresses, shoes, nail polish, hearts, and flowers. With all the boys in our family, I've worked hard to make sure she appreciates all the girly things in life.

She is also a pro at blowing out candles--much to our surprise. I made her blow out the candles 4 times tonight and I still wasn't quick enough.

She's quick to give hugs and kisses if someone is crying and also quick to say sorry if she did something wrong. And let's be honest--when you have multiple siblings, there's going to be a lot of toy snatching and "sowwy's" to be heard.

Even two years after giving birth to a girl, I still have moments where I think/say "I can't believe I get to have a daughter!"
As her personality develops, it's very obvious that she's the baby sister to 3 brothers (**note how she goes head first for that cupcake!!)

But make no mistake--she is very much a girly girl. And sometimes a diva. This morning she insisted on wearing her swimming suit instead of the outfit I picked out. And I let her. But that's only because she looked super adorable in her swimming suit!

I love our little "miss" and I'm thankful for these 2 years that we've been able to watch her grow.
Happy birthday Evangeline :)
