February iPhone photos (part 1)

Have I mentioned my desire to be somewhere warm and beachy? If so, I think it's worth mentioning again. I love the look of snow...but that's pretty much where any degree of my love for winter ends.

Don went out this of those last minute crazy people fighting the crowds at Walmart. But the snow has been coming down steadily and the item he needed to buy was kind of important. Anyway, by the time he gets home, there are multiple cars stuck in the snow along our street. Things didn't get any better when his car also got stuck in the middle of the street...right in front of our house. Ironically, the item he went out to buy was a shovel. Thankfully we have the best neighbors in the world. They were able to push him along to get out of the middle of the street. Now I'm just praying the roads are a little better as he drives to work tonight and home in the morning. (**before I finished writing this, he was able to make it safely to work...though the roads were pretty horrible)

I may not have pulled my dslr out very much lately but I did pull out my iPhone on plenty of occasions. So many occasions, in fact, that I'm going to break up this month's pictures over two posts. I know--what a thrilling thought!

You may have thought (hoped) I was done with pictures from my photoshoot with Rachel a few weeks back. I'm not. But maybe after this post?

those smiles make me smile

I know I've posted this one already. But it needs an encore. Someone in this picture needed a nap and didn't like that I wouldn't let her hold my phone.

the week before Valentine's Day gets overloaded with everything heart-shaped and pink

this face is almost too much to handle

We were able to go out the night before Valentine's Day because of some very "Loving" girls who watched a whole army of kids at church that night. My idea of a fun night out is to go thrifting. Thankfully my husband agreed. But I had to laugh as I found myself in the fitting room a few times that evening as he waited on me.

and ice cream at Ginny's is a must

The rest of that weekend we were able to relax at home while the kids were away. But I did force Don to go outside to take a few pictures together in the snow.

This snow storm is a little less relaxing with the kids at home. But if all goes as planned, tomorrow should be a fun day of playing in the snow and eating homemade ice cream and snow cones! And I really wouldn't have it any other way.

maternity pictures

A couple of weeks ago when Rachel and I did the gender reveal photoshoot, we took some typical maternity shots as well. It was kind of funny to me because at this point 1) I feel like I'm just showing off the impact of my bad eating habits and 2) there are only so many different ways to showcase an expanding waist line.

I have come to realize that I almost always prefer pictures of myself when I am not looking at the camera.

So thank you, Rachel, for sharing your gift with me and allowing me to document this point in my pregnancy. ***this was at 18 weeks

In other news, my best friend got engaged(!!) and I am now gearing up for being a very pregnant bridesmaid in her wedding!!
I'm looking forward to these months of wedding planning! I have been praying for this day and I'm thankful to see how the Lord is working it all out.

kids say

Today marks the "halfway point" in my pregnancy! Part of my day was spent in a chair at the dentist, having a temporary crown put on. So that was no fun. But you know what is fun? This post. Enjoy!

As Kai was praying--
"...and please help us find a new house before I turn bigger."

While potty training Kingston, when he finally peed, he yelled "yay! It's squirting!"
(Sorry if that's TMI--but it was pretty funny)
He also, after every unsuccessful attempt, he would say "We'll talk again later."

Kai's face was itchy so he asked "Am I starting to grow a beard?"

I told the boys I would be making peanut butter/chocolate bars for dessert (a layer of a peanut butter mixture and a layer of chocolate--amazing, like a homemade reeses!!) Liam got really excited and said "those are like lasagna! Only without the cheese...or the noodles....or the sauce...or meat."

I asked the boys what they would tell a robot to do if they were able to control one. Liam said "I would tell it to go to Iceland."

Me--"Boys just like gross stuff...and things like fighting and wrestling. Girls like to relax, get massages, and eat ice cream and chocolate."
Liam--"And eat lots and lots of donuts."
(Maybe I have a slight problem!)

Kai saw one of the hospital buildings with lots of windows and asked "Is that the Eiffel Tower?"

Liam was loving a section of his math book and was giggling after every problem. He kept telling me how much fun he was having and then, speaking directly to his book, said "Math, this part is just too much fun!" Then he asked me if I was going to write down this story.

Don was telling the boys about having to go to a night of training for work where he would have to listen to someone talk and watch videos about money.
Kai said "Why would you watch movies about money? We already know what a money does."

and because I don't want to post without a picture....
this lovely photo...brought to you by the words "nap time"
...because not every family photo can be perfect.

boys are crazy

The kids were gone over the past couple of days which makes for a very quiet house. I forgot that silence like that even existed. I missed them while they were gone, but that level of relaxation hasn't happened for 6 1/2 years, so it was much appreciated!

I know I usually think that it can be hard to get anything done with children in the house. But the past couple of days have shown me how hard it is to get anything done when children are NOT in the house! When you can sit under a blanket and watch it snow without interruption, it is extremely hard to be motivated to do anything else.

The other day, I was trying to explain to someone why life with boys is a little crazier than life with girls. I get are going to be wild and full of energy either way. But I would say that boys are just built with more of an intensity to them. And when you have more than one boy, that intensity is.....intensified.

These pictures from a few days ago are here to serve as an illustration. They put couch cushions at the bottom of the stairs and were jumping down (sometimes from halfway up the stairs.) I was going to stop them but decided I had to document it first. Surprisingly, no one got hurt...this time.

So check back with me in a couple of years and make sure I'm still sane. Because I'm pretty sure my sanity slips away on a daily basis!

gender reveal photoshoot...or not

In case you somehow missed the announcement, Roberts baby #5 is a boy! To say we were shocked would be an understatement. You see, this pregnancy was exactly like the last one (a girl) and so not like the 3 boy pregnancies I've had. So for months I've been convinced I was having a girl. And I guess that had most people around me convinced of the same thing.

So that leads me to the explanation of the following pictures--unless you don't want an explanation. In that case...just scroll down...

First let me say that I know some people would think that any special "gender reveal" is going overboard. Especially when it's your 5th child. I actually debated doing anything special because I was worried about what people would think. But since I think every child should be celebrated (whether the 1st or the 15th) and I love photography, I wanted to do some fun portraits this time around.

I had a few different ideas in my head that were all dependent on how the weather was cooperating. And when we had a 63 degree coming up just days before my ultrasound, I knew that I wanted to grab some paint and paint my face for some fun portraits.

The problem--
Okay, so with not actually knowing if it was a boy or girl, I knew we were going to have to do both sets of pictures. But painting my face, taking pictures, washing it off, reapplying makeup, repainting with a different color, retaking all just seemed like too much of a hassle. I mean, I KNEW I was having a girl anyway. So I decided to make the pink paint a priority and come up with a different idea for the boy know, just in case.

But I ran into a few problems with running late and finding the supplies I needed for the boy pictures. No big deal--I only really need the girl pictures. Right?

Long story short, (because yes, there actually is more to the story) Rachel, my super talented friend who took all of the photos for me, was able to do a quick little photoshop job to make a couple of the pink pictures blue for me. I think she did an amazing job and I was so very happy with how the pictures turned out. **Also, I should add that she got engaged the day after taking these (YAY!!) and I'm super excited for her and Chris. It added to the craziness with the pictures--but for a very good reason :)

So now for the very wrong colored photoshoot (just think of it as a little Valentine's themed shoot instead!!)

the pink wig--it was fun to temporarily have neon hair

that would be my "oh my, I was so wrong" face

So after all my pink themed pictures, I just have to say--
happy (almost) Valentine's Day!

it's a boy!

Much to our surprise, we're having another baby boy!! Evangeline will remain quite the spoiled little girl. I'll be back with the rest of this photoshoot by Rachel really soon (and you may notice something a little off with them when I post them!) But I had to pop in and share this special news.

January iPhone photos

It's so crazy that we're already into the second month of 2015. Judging by my iPhone pictures, January was filled with junk food. And trust me, that is pretty much reality. February is an exciting month for us--we will be finding out the baby's gender next week! So I'm assuming the next week will go by very slowly.

(If you follow me on instagram, most of these are repeats..)

Maggi gifted this beautiful prayer journal to me this past Christmas. It is really helpful to be able to see needs written out in front of you.

the boys and I always love to wake up to see boxes of donuts on the counter

Stephanie gave me this devotional. I highly recommend it--seriously encouraging.
And this mug cookie from my favorite food blog has been my go-to quick dessert lately. It is seriously good and only takes a few minutes to whip up. The first time I made it, it was kind of crumbly. But she added a note to the recipe to help prevent that. And it is so good. Check out her other recipes as well. Mel never lets me down.
her pigtails are my favorite

an afternoon outing with a good friend and good food was much needed this month

16 weeks and already starting to feel those tiny baby kicks
this picture kind of demonstrates why I don't have many pictures of all 4 kids together

Lion's Choice cones are always a good choice

while shopping at Target, Kingston saw this coat in the girl's section and yelled "Chewbacca coat!!" He had to try it on.

This past Wednesday marked 17 weeks for me. It also was the day I had my first root canal. If anyone wants to know, it wasn't as painful as most people describe (and I am a wimp) but I have been absolutely traumatized reliving those 45 minutes in my brain. I'm not sure what they're actually doing during a root canal, and I don't want to know, but I am so grossed out by even guessing.

but since I didn't cry (like I thought I would) I thought I deserved a QT pretzel

I'm looking forward to learning more about photography this year so I can pass some helpful tips to Liam. He's already learning to find the natural light.

So, one week left until we find out the gender...any guesses?
