live together, die alone

If you have known me longer than 5 minutes, you probably know that I am a huge fan of LOST. Don and I have been hooked since the first episode. When the series finale aired a few years ago, we had quite the epic finale party. Everybody dressed in character and we also had themed food, decorations, and the smoke monster himself.

This past Monday marked 10 years since that historic plane crash on September 22, 2004 (which was also the date that it first aired.) Chris and Rachel were coming over for dinner that night, so we thought we would make it a little more fun by dressing in character for the occasion.

Chris dressed as Ben Linus  and Rachel was Claire Littleton
(click the links to see the looks they were going for)

Don and I kind of cheated and went for easy costumes because I had a lot to get done that day. Don was Jack Shephard and I was Kate Austen

Rachel's sister whipped up this realistic looking pregnant belly the night before they came over!

It's pretty crazy that it's already been 10 years.
"We have to go back!"

The Great Forest Park Balloon Race

Before I begin this post, check out my new blog logo, hand painted by Rachel! Isn't it amazing? She is not only extremely talented in the world of photography, but she can do amazing graphic design. Pretty soon she will be designing new hand painted prints to sell. I cannot wait to purchase some of her beautiful work to fill my home. And I hope many others will join me in pressuring her to start making them ASAP!

And now, The Great Forest Park Balloon Race.
Saturday was the annual hot air balloon race in Forest Park. I had been to the balloon glow years ago, but had never been the the race before. Ever since we purchased our camera in March, I had been looking forward to going to the race to take some pictures. There's just something wonderful about those colorful balloons. And even better with the Lovings and Gunbys :)

if there's something free to be found, we will find it. but these drinks were so gross that the kids wouldn't even drink them.

Legacy's little pigtails blowing in the wind :)

and now an abundance of balloon pictures

This was the perfect way to end the summer!

I missed them

While we were away on our anniversary getaway, the kids stayed with their grandparents for a couple nights. We picked up Evangeline after the first night because I thought she would have missed me. Nope. She was having a great time without me. I think I missed them more than they missed me. We spent a couple hours out in my dad's backyard, enjoying the cool summer night.

16 months old and finally walking more and more each day

it's always fun to watch the cows that come right up next to the fence

between the big moon and beautiful sunset, it was a wonderful evening to spend outside

7 years down, many more to go

Seven years ago a young 19 year old girl and 22 year old boy were relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii (and looking for as many LOST filming locations as possible) on the days following our September 7th wedding. So much has changed over these past 7 years--maybe it has something to do with 4 kids who rely on us to love and take care of them everyday. But it is amazing to see how much our love grows each year.
Maybe we can't agree on what kind of chocolate is the best (milk chocolate, definitely) or which kind of crust to get with our pizzas (say no to thin crusts!) But marriage is a sanctification process. We have grown a lot in the past 7 years. I like the way this is heading :)

On Sunday, we were very blessed to be able to go out for the first time in over 6 years--just the two of us--over night. I pulled Maggi out of a meeting at church and forced her to snap a few pictures. Thanks Maggi :)

We stayed in the master suite of Seven Gables Inn--a huge suite, king size bed, Jacuzzi tub!

it had an older, charming feel to the room

but I just wanted to jump on the bed

For dinner, we had some great Mexican food from Rosalita's in Downtown. The next day we had some burgers from Stacked Burger Bar off of Loughborough. They have buy one get one half off on Monday--definitely check them out! The burgers were fantastic (in my opinion.) And for dessert, we picked up some shakes from Ginny's. Throw in a day of thrifting and that was how we celebrated our 7th anniversary. I'm looking forward to many, many more years with my husband, getting better each year. And maybe another trip back to Hawaii :)

On the days leading up to our wedding, I remember a friend telling us to rethink getting married. "You are so young." "It won't last." I told him I would prove him wrong. He said "good, prove me wrong. I WANT you to prove me wrong." So a shout out to him 7 years later---We've made it this far and don't ever plan to give up!

Lone Elk Park

Until this past week, I had never been to Lone Elk Park or the World Bird Sanctuary. I thought both of those parks would be fun for the boys. So on Monday, without any Labor Day plans, we drove over to the parks to check them out. Lone Elk Park is a drive thru park...which is pretty fantastic for someone who doesn't have loads of energy. The boys did like it and we did get to see a few animals, but I think it would be beautiful to drive through the park when the leaves are changing, in all their fall glory.

Kingston actually slept through most of it

After that, we drove over to the World Bird Sanctuary. We missed the bird show so next time we will plan a little better. The boys still enjoyed getting to see all the different kinds of birds. They said their favorite part was when the parrot said "hello" to them. They were definitely surprised to hear a bird talk.
I did get a few pictures of the kids while we were there (who are far more attractive than the birds)

a good day becomes a great day when ice cream is involved

I love making memories with this family of mine that I love so much :)
