Zeke and his mommy

I feel like I should start out this post by acknowledging the fact that I am not, nor do I think I am, anywhere near a professional photographer. Actually, I don't even like to use the word "photographer." I am a girl that just happens to have a decent camera. But when one of your best friends has their first baby? That just calls for a photoshoot. I asked Stef if I could take a few pictures of her and her sweet baby boy while I was over at her house for a visit.
And let me just give props to those newborn photographers. When you see those pictures, they don't come easily. So while these pictures aren't professional quality, I sure did have fun taking them. Here are some of the pictures from our day. Stef is a beautiful mommy and Zeke is super handsome!

He even popped in a smile for me at the end :)
I'm looking forward to watching this little cutie grow!

kids say..

Just a few random pictures of these kids that I love...and also a few cute things they've said lately

Liam--"hey daddy?"
Don--"yeah Liam?
Liam--"wait, nevermind...I'll ask mommy because she knows everything."

Me--"Kingston, don't give Evangeline a bottle. We're trying to get her to learn to be a big girl."
Kai--"Kingston, you can give it to her because I want a little girl."

Liam--"Are wigs for when you don't have a head?"

Liam was reading a text message from Maggi outloud--
Liam--"Mommy, Maggi Loving said 'that's how I roll.' I think she sent that text yesterday since that's when we had rolls."

As Kingston and Evangeline were climbing all over Kai, Kai said "I don't have time for this!"

Kingston--"mommy, you're pretty"
Me--"no, you're pretty"
Kingston--"no, Elmo's pretty"

As the boys were playing with their Star Wars toys, Kai quoted that famous Star Wars quote--
"May the forest be with you!"

Have a happy weekend!

happy birthday, 6 year old!

Liam turned 6 yesterday. It's pretty crazy that having a 6 year old also means that we've been parents for 6 years! It's amazing to watch our children grow. They come into this world not knowing anything, and within 6 years, they have already learned to do so many things. We've experienced so many "firsts" with Liam. This year, we are tackling 1st grade (if I can ever decide which curriculum to use.) It's overwhelming looking through all the curriculum choices that have been recommended to us.
On Sunday night, we had our neighbor friends over for a simple "Frozen" party. Liam is totally passionate about party decorations, so we hung some snowflakes and made a "pin the nose on Olaf" game for the kids.

Ever since the boys watched "Lord of the Rings" with Don, Liam has been obsessed with wanting a bow and arrow so he could be "just like Legolas." I actually found one at Dollar Tree! He is so happy with it, I'm thinking he'll need a better quality wooden bow next.

Liam's big request for his birthday meal was a Happy Meal from McDonald's. So easy to please!

we had Bible Study last night so I made a cookie cake for the birthday boy

Liam is so special to us. I love him more and more every day and I look forward to seeing how God will use him in the years to come.

Jour De Fete

I have been totally failing at taking pictures lately. Saturday was no exception. I didn't take as many as I wanted to, unfortunately.
We went to a festival called Jour De Fete in Ste. Genevieve. There were a lot of vendor booths, delicious smelling food, a few colonial reenactors, and some animals from the Wild Bird Sanctuary.

Ste. Genevieve really is a lovely place. I'd love to take pictures there sometime without all the crowds.

The boys loved the snake. Kai got to help hold it because he told the girl that he was "very strong." That was the highlight of the day for him.

And the highlight of the day for me? Ice cream. Because it's not considered a good day until you have ice cream.

Hunn house

There has been way too much sickness floating around at our house. Lots of coughing--which also adds to lots of trouble breathing for the boys. And it leaves me feeling totally unmotivated to do anything when we're feeling like this.
Last week we were able to head down to my Grandma's house for the afternoon. I didn't take any pictures with the dslr, but I did get a few on my phone that I thought I would share.
Her property is the best. The summer has been good to her yard--so green and beautiful!

Because I love taking pictures at her house, I started a hashtag on Instagram--#hunnhouse (her last name is Hunn)
I hope to fill up that hashtag with many more pictures.

Also, lately, we've been taking a lot of videos. A session with lollipops last week and one with ice cream today. I'm pretty sure the kids are really annoyed that we keep handing them sweets and telling them to eat them. Horrible parents, we are ;)

We will be starting school pretty soon. Liam will be starting 1st grade and Kai wants to start Kindergarten. He is only 4--but he sees Liam learning and wants to do it too. So I will try to start him on Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Liam flew through that book and loved it so I'm hoping Kai will too. Liam is anxious to "do school." So I need to get my act together so we can start.
It's so hard to believe the summer is ending! Bring on the cool weather, bonfires, scarves, and boots!
