You can always go, Downtown

Meet Rachel of Apricot Studios. This girl is an amazing photographer. Amazing. She's also the girl who encouraged me to buy a camera and learn photography. I've bugged her multiple times with questions and she's always so kind to answer and encourage me.

We thought it would be fun to have a little girls day out to play around with some photography. This was my first time shooting outside so I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the settings. But when you're shooting 3 pretty girls, you're bound to get some good pictures.

We went to a few of the rundown areas Downtown and Rachel shared some of her knowledge with me, Maggi, and Mayci!)

Mayci + Maggi = Love(ing)

I've never been to the graffiti wall before. There was some pretty neat artwork.

life is beautiful

It was so much fun to have 3 lovely models to work with all day

Loved these houses!

I had so so so much fun yesterday! I'm thankful that Rachel was so helpful to us girls in our "photography club" as we snapped away all afternoon.

Love these 3 girls! So classy and gorgeous ;)

reindeer are better than people

**The blog title has nothing to do with this post. But I hate titling posts and the Frozen soundtrack has been on repeat this week. So that's the best I could come up with.

I hope to be able to look back at my pictures someday (hopefully soon!) and see an improvement in the quality. I do like a lot of the pictures I've been getting, but I know it's because I think the subjects are pretty cute. And my number one subject is Miss Evangeline. The boys are busy running around and playing while I'm trying to figure out the settings on this camera. This girl likes to be by my side at all times...which is why most of the pictures are usually close up.

Usually I get pictures of such a sweet face.

But today, this is the look I was getting. Over and over again. For some reason, she became obsessed with this facial expression. What a goof.

And then there's this silly guy. He was having a "potato sack" race with Kingston and then decided to wear the bag. He asked "Mommy, do I look like I work at Walmart?"

...Maybe not. But he does look like one of the classy people who shop there.

our camera is here!

Today is the day that we've been looking forward to for a couple weeks. Our camera finally came! As soon as the battery was charged, I popped it in the camera, turned the dial to "manual," and started snapping pictures. I want to avoid any temptation to turn the dial to "automatic." While the pictures are not perfect, I can tell they are a huge improvement over any point-and-shoots and phone cameras (obviously.) The quality on this thing is amazing!

Here are a few pictures that I ended up liking from today. I need a lot of practice!

Check out our new DSLR!

I love that little fish face

The boys got to take turns taking pictures. This is one of Liam's shots.

The other day, Maggi and I were laughing about the Tributes portraits in "Catching Fire." This would be Evangeline's.

I simply said "Don't smile."

Night shooting is going to be a tad more difficult but I couldn't resist this face.

And here's one that I snapped with my phone yesterday. Kingston randomly fell asleep on the couch. I knew that was a bad sign. This kid never does that. Turns out, he was sick :( All better now! Hoping for a healthy week!

to grandmother's house we go

Yesterday we went to visit Grandma Hunn before she left for yet another international trip (and she turns 83, I think, next week!!) Her house and yard are filled with lots of memories. I love to take the boys down to her house for the day...especially when it's nice outside. And yesterday, the weather was perfect!

I love her antique scales!

And the big entertainment is always the chickens

 And the tire swing
(Kai and his second cousin, Rylie are just days apart)

Evangeline and this chicken hung out for half the day

Great Grandma Hunn with some of the kids

I call this her diva look

Never has there been a friendlier chicken

cousins

This is real life. Trying to get a picture of all 4. Kai rocked it though

collecting feathers and eggs

Her property is so picturesque. I can't wait to take my DSLR down there for the day when she gets back!

This smile won't last long--more snow coming tomorrow :(
